The first kidnappings happened two hundred years before. Some years it was two boys taken, some years two girls, sometimes one of each. But if at first the choices seemed random, soon the pattern became clear. One was always beautiful and good, the child every parent wanted as their own. The other was homely and odd, an outcast from birth. An opposing pair, plucked from yo..more

The boys went off to fight with swords while girls had to learn dog barks and owl hoots. No wonder princesses were so impotent in fairy tales, she thought. If all they could do was smile, stand straight, and speak to squirrels, then what choice did they have but to wait for a boy to rescue them?If any book ever deserved to be Disney-fied, this would be it.

Sooooo this is a lesson on how an amazing cover can sell even the worst book. I deeply regret buying this. Let me tell you why.
At first, I read the way Good was portrayed (especially the girls) and I thought, this will be overturned. By the end, it will be revealed that these vain, catty, boy-obsessed children are actually evil. And I can't really blame them for being vain and catty, because if they aren't asked to the ball by a boy, they fail (aka, they die. Literally).

I was pretty excited to read The School for Good and Evil.. until I realized it was a middle grade book. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against middle grade books generally, but the ones I prefer tend to be the meaningful stories starring kids with deeper themes anyone can appreciate, rather than the dumbed down, intentionally silly, or overly simplistic takes most middle grade authors choose to write instead. Still, I gave this one a chance and Soman Chainani actually surprised me a..more

Overall I enjoyed this book. The story was really fun and I liked the way the author played around with fairytale tropes. But what killed it for me was the pacing. I think this is my favorite of the new books set in the Nocturne Falls world. Sophie and Elias are a great couple. The resolution of Eli's poisoning was dramatic and well crafted.
Absolutely fantastic story and as always your pulled straight in and again I was very moved by this story heartbreaking and heartwarming aswell as adventure and beating foes love it, thank you Cate for Writing it xx

The Doctor Falls for Her Gargoyle by Cate Dean
From the Kindle World of Kristen Painter, this is a story that takes place in Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween year round so that paranormals can live openly.
Instant engagement. I liked the characters immediately and felt their pain, empathy and embarrassment. Yes, very average and standard feelings everyone shares at times. These are not the perfect people. It's the working class. And it's us.

This is a great book; this book is part of the Nocturne Falls Universe and is written by Cate Dean. The Nocturne Falls series is written by Kristen Painter and I was so happy that these new books by new authors were asked to write a story in the town. Nocturne Falls is a town that celebrates Halloween every day of the year and also a place that paranormal’s can live and not have to hide what they really are. Dr. Sophie Mead is falling for one of Nocturne Falls' resident gargoyles: the tall, musc..more

Cate's second foray into Nocturne Falls 'The Doctor Falls for Her Gargoyle' was cute, but I feel that she seems to keep away from involving the residents of Nocturne Falls and when she does they seem a little stiff and formal instead of relaxed and human (well ok Super Natural) and easy to relate to.. I enjoyed the story, but I think with this book especially there is too much traveling and not enough Nocturne Falls. There are some characters she'd brought in previously that I feel she could ha..more
Charming, brisk paced, this story has compelling chemistry between the leads and it is nice to have a plot premised on the vulnerability of the hero from the beginning. The secondary characters though are where this story shines, from the platonically loving neighbor of Elias to the paternally loving non-family of Sophie’s. However, author Dean opens doors shining an interesting light on to a backstory of her father’s long power struggle with more noble witches and then drops the thread. Is it a..more
I love reading about Gargoyles! This latest read from Cate Dean in the Nocturne Falls Series had me engrossed from the beginning. If you read her prior NFU novel, 'The Witch Rescues Her Werewolf,' then you will know the background when Eli talks about Lidia and Harrison. I found myself wanting to go back to re-read the first book just to refresh myself on that story as their relationship is enchanting. This story is about Sophie, a doctor that can treat both humans and supernaturals (a rarity) a..more
Cate Dean has added a second story to the Nocturne Falls Universe and it is great! Doctor Sophie moved to Nocturne Falls after a lifetime of never being able to please her parents. She also has a huge crush on gargoyle handyman Eli. When Eli comes to consult the doctor over an odd mark on his arm, she has to hang on to her emotions. The mark is a mystery that requires searching for answers in some difficult places. Besides the main characters, the story also includes characters from her first NF..more

Now, I really like this book. Sophie was a daughter of supernatural parents, yet had no superpower. She’s an ‘ordinary’ accomplished woman, just like any woman could be. Elias was, clearly, a supernatural. Something wrong with him, clinically. Sophie rushed to help him, drew all the help she could get to cure Elias.
I love the characters, I love their interaction, I love the mystery. Basically, I love this book. ‘Nuf said.

Surprising and Wonderful
I am a dedicated fan of Nocturne Falls and as such really feel protective over the 'flavor' of that world. Therefore, I am happy to say that Cate Dean stays in the fold yet clearly offers her own voice to the mix. I really enjoyed this book. It had some suspense, some courage, some love, some struggle, and some HEA. The story also included familiar characters from Nocturne Falls which made me just plain happy!

5 stars all the way. This story is about Sophie, the resident doctor for the supernatural population in Nocturne Falls and Elias, a gargoyle. When Elias gets cursed, Sophie does everything she can to help him, proceeding to fall for him during the process. With action, twists, and romance, this novel has the whole package.
Another successful HEA in the NFU. For those not in the 'know', that means happily-ever-after and Nocturne Falls Universe. You know the best ever fictional town that we all want to move to, live in and bask in all its supernatural glory. Cate does a great job in adding more characters and stories to the NFU. Enjoy!
The Doctor Falls For Her Gargoyle by Cate Dean is a Kristen Painter Nocturne Falls Universe Story.
I liked Sophie from the start, and thought Elias was hot hot hot! The story was good, and there was a nice mystery that kept me reading. Another wonderful incorporation of Kristen Painters NFU with another authors story and characters.

Lovely
In the continuing tale of Nocturne Falls, Nocturne Falls Universe brings in more characters and their stories. You'll still keep in touch with the original characters while learning more about its citizens. The writing is witty, intelligent and paints a picture of just what the author intended all wrapped up in a Happily Ever After.

Another great addition to the NF Universe!
I love Sofie & Eli's story! I wish there were more to it, but it played out very nicely and used previously introduced characters as well! I look forward to more from this author!

It was a very interesting but too short story. The characters were nice but underdeveloped. More background for the doctor and Eli. It almost like a rush to the finish line. Normally I love Cate Dean's books but this left me feeling like something was missing.
This is a book in Kristen Painters Nocturne Falls Universe. I've enjoyed all these different authors take on Nocturne Falls. This was another great one. I loved all the characters. The hero and heroine were wonderful,
Good
This was an interesting read and set largely in Nocturne Falls, a place I would love to be real.
The plot was strong and interesting. I liked the characters and it was wonderful seeing characters I’m already familiar with.
This was well written and moved at a steady pace.

Like all the NFU I've read so far, it's easy to read, a little too fast-paced, sweet, cute, with endearing heroes and a very caricatural villain. Here, the hero is a gargoyle, and I appreciated that. Not much more to tell, but it's one of my favourites so far.

Two young loves both from homes where they never quite measured up. Tossed into a whirlwind of life and death. Racing against time and unbeknownst to them racing right towards each other..
Loved it
What a good book. It was short but packed a punch! I hope to see books about jake, charles, and the druids.

A clever spin-off story that is well placed in the Nocturne Falls town. The balance of romance (without being overly sappy or sexual) with the fantasy/mystery mix was well done and fun to read!

I enjoyed this, it was a fun read and I liked that we seen characters the author had focused on in her previous contribution to the Nocturne Falls Universe!
